Saint Valentine's Aim
By Zélia De Sousa

Dear Saint Valentine.
It’s raining and windy today.
I’m hoping this won’t spoil your aim.
Since it’s Valentines Day.

I’m dreaming of my romantic soulmate.
Showing up on my door step.

(I close my eyes and visualise)

…Ding, dong (goes my bell)

‘Sorry to bother you, I’m lost, looking for this house.’ Showing me the address on a wet piece of paper.

‘You’re dripping. Looks like you are in need of a hot cup of cocoa.’ I say with dreamy eyes.

‘It’s Valentine’s day, your Valentine won’t mind?’

‘I don’t have one.’ I whisper.

He looks down at his paper

‘It’s only a blind date. My mother said she spoke to cupid, arranging this so-called get together, which I didn’t want in the first place. Apparently, it’s time for me to settle down… Oh well.

Looking up at me.

‘I guess it’s a blessing in disguise… Cocoa will be nice, I have heart shaped biscuits in the car’.

‘My favourite.’ Placing my hands over my chest.

‘Just a sec, I’ll be right back.’

…Ding, dong (goes my bell)
