Vasant 2022 Poems - Gary Beck

Frenemy

By Gary Beck

Sometimes weather is a friend,
sometimes it’s an enemy.
When we need rain for crops
and it rains helpfully
our lives are bettered.
But when it rains, rains, rains,
floods devastate our land
destroying property, lives.
The variety of climate change
brings bigger storms,
longer droughts, dangerous changes,
that protected city dwellers
are frequently sheltered from,
grown oblivious
to the perils of nature.
