Shishir 2022 Poems - Christina E. Petrides

Medusa
By Christina E. Petrides

Her hair immortal
coiled in hissing knots, she eyed
statuesque young men
with suspicion born
of wisdom’s censure.

Irish Seahorses

At the mouth of the river
young bareback racers
thunder beneath jagged bluffs.
The sandy pace taxes
fathers’ patience
and worries mothers—
both yelling, “Hold on!”
and “Faster, just a bit!”
Children urge their mounts
with shrill cries soon
lost in the fierce wind

Born in Texas and raised in the Central Savannah River Area of Georgia, USA, Christina E. Petrides has lived and worked on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, since 2017.
