Shishir 2022 Poems - Patricia Furstenberg

Autumnal Pantoum
By Patricia Furstenberg

Don’t tell me the leaves have turned,
Let me feel them rustling, powder ambers glowing in my hand
Let my hair be one with the crinkling foilles
My heart sits marooned by the oak turned lamp.

Let me feel them rustling, powder ambers glowing in my hand
Butterscotch sails, branches dancing in the wind
My heart sits marooned by the oak turned lamp.
Smell the cinnamon rays painting sweet pumpkin pies on rocks.

Butterscotch sails, branches dancing in the wind
I spot russet pears, summer’s treasure chests with elegant necks and coarse skins.
Smell the cinnamon rays painting sweet pumpkin pies on rocks.
Give me the hint of pears’ sweet scent and creamy flesh on lips, coppery glow.

I spot russet pears, summer’s treasure chests with elegant necks and coarse skins.
Take me to the pyramid that grows and grows, russet whispers echoing memories that squeal
Give me the hint of pears’ sweet scent and creamy flesh on lips, coppery glow.
Show me the trees set alight in the last of daylight, tiny polished bulbs.

Take me to the pyramid that grows and grows, russet whispers echoing memories that squeal
Let my hair be one with the crinkling foilles
Show me the trees set alight in the last of daylight, tiny polished bulbs.
Don’t tell me the leaves have turned.
