Open 2025 Poems - Lena Falkenbury
The
Vanishing Now
By Lena Falkenbury
The present slips
through my fingers,
a flicker of light too fast to hold.
Screens glow, voices hum,
and the world keeps spinning,
louder and louder.
There’s always
something to do,
somewhere to be.
Moments scatter like leaves in the wind,
forgotten before they land.
When was the last
time I paused—
felt the sun on my face,
the weight of silence in the air?
When did I last notice the way
laughter lingers in a room
long after it’s gone?
We race forward, heads down,
forgetting that the present
is already a memory
we’ll wish we had made.
