Vasant 2026 Poems - Diane Webster

Sunflower Shadow
By Diane Webster

Against the stucco wall
a sunflower stands –
an escapee held at gunpoint,
arms raised in surrender.

Its shadow pushes
from behind
to sacrifice its host
to vanish away
from a firing squad,
from a life sentence
repose.

Snow Fallen

The tree branch acts like a shadow
beneath snow fallen on top
as it stretches across the field
where genuine shadows
perform under the sun’s spotlight.

Astounded silence fills
the forest auditorium
as the performance closes
under a snowflake glitter
wandering from limbs.
