Concrete Water

By Laurence Stevens

I used to walk alone across this
wasteland in comatose full of bliss.
But from the playground to the bridge, that night,
two souls were singing.
And tenements looked on dismayed
at the thought their concrete walls were being delayed.
The prison walls were running afraid.
Drowning in concrete water.
Silence wherever I sought her.
Remembering the times we spent
alone
in the comfort of her home.
You know, I’d rather go
‘cos I heard that love lives on the streets.
Like stones wrapped in ribbons and rosary beads.
But from the playground to the streets, that night,
two souls were singing
while chucking coins down onto the playing field pitch.
The nights just flicker and wander away.
The nights just flicker and wander away.
But so lonely, I was just wandering around the bend.
So lonely, I was just wandering around the bend.
