Open Call 2019, Poems - Sharmila Mitra

Breaking away from the carousel

By Sharmila Mitra

Been
Tied
On
A
Rope
Far too long
On display
On the carousel
Spinning
Not
Running
Or galloping
Rider after rider
On my shiny
Used back

No more

Chain gang life
Breaking
The rope
The mindset
The drudgery

At last

Making a break
For it
Silent
Relentless
In determination

What a notion

Going
Going

GONE

God's Free Creature
Back To The Wild For Ever...
