Varsha (Monsoon) 2020 Poems - Ajani Omowumi

Behind the mask

By Ajani Omowumi

Till when do I need to hide the pain?
Who do I tell I cry heavily in the rain?
The ache in my soul has been going on for years.
Yet, no shoulder to lean on and everyone turn deaf ears

My silent screams, tears and sleepless nights
Has made me lose the strength and passion to fight
Just like the whole world turns it back against me
With loneliness consuming me without setting me free

Behind this face that carries a bright smile
Lies a dark road of unending miles.
I keep saying I'm fine even though am not
Whilst this trauma is about getting me nut

Who do I explain to that am wearing a mask?
And my heart swims in fear and painted dark.
