Mother Earth

By Aaishah Mayet

At once my nadir and my zenith,
We are complicated, you and I
Inextricably entwined
I: Earth; You: Fire

A shameless Casanova, you’ve singed my nostrils
Choked me, as you tango with the wind
Even as Water wrote gushingly, rode gallantly, quenched deeply
I craved your culinary prowess; your compelling cosy embrace

But... I will prevail!
My wisdom will contain you in the confines of my core
Your raging must always know its place!

Aaishah Mayet was born and brought up in the City of Gold, Johannesburg, South Africa. She works in the Healthcare sector which, for her, has bridged the frontiers of our shared human experience. As a self-confessed bibliophile of many years, literature remains her teacher and her sanctuary.
