Wayward Wind Deconstructed

By Gerard Sarnat

The wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

Oy, eleven years-old boy
listening to Lucky Lager Dance Time
on my toy transistor radio
hid from Dad and Mom under the covers

doing g-d knows what else

even if I did not understand
or was comfortable with
or even like teenage-in-training stuff

trying out so hard to become an adult,
given options, it was better than being a kid.
